NEW SOUTH WALES TALLEST TREES
As winter project for 2024 we decided to remeasure all of New South Wales’s tallest trees using one definitive methodology. We had so much fun on this scientific expedition, adventuring with friends, exploring stunning forests… and we broke the tall tree record by 11 metres.

THE HUON VALLEY GROVE OF GIANTS

Lathamus Keep is the world’s largest blue gum. This “super giant” is located in the Huon Valley Grove of Giants and was scheduled to be logged in 2023. It took two years of work to save it and the forest.

CLOSING THE CANOPY RESEARCH
GAP IN WEST AFRICA
In May we traveled to Ghana in West Africa to train local scientists how to tree climb, so they can undertake important canopy research.
With the help of our equipment partners, we were able to donate AUD $19,000 of tree climbing equipment to the university.

Two e-fuel projects are being proposed in northern Tasmania. These facilities will make green hydrogen from renewable energy and then create e-fuel by adding forest biomass. But these two projects may not be as green as they seem.

CANOPY ACCESS
We provide professional assistance to scientific research, film and tv and other disciplines that require access to the tree tops. We do this by working with teams to find the most suitable individual tree or forest that best fits their project parameters and access requirements. We then prepare this site by installing climbing and rigging systems that allow to most delicate of instruments to be securely moved within the canopy.
We’ve worked and climbed the biggest trees in USA, Taiwan, China, New Zealand and Panama as well as every state in Australia.

Tasmania’s most carbon-dense forest
Just published in Austral Ecology is our academic paper that describes the calculations and methodologies.
Dr Jennifer Sanger from The Tree Projects, found that the Huon Valley Grove of Giants contained 1312 tonnes of carbon per hectare, making it the highest estimation of carbon for any Tasmanian forest.
In November 2022, we invited a group of 15 professional tree climbers and carbon specialists from across Australia and New Zealand to visit the Huon Valley Grove of Giants and measure how much carbon was stored in the forest.
The goal was to quantify yet again why this forest should not be logged and we won.
